RPL Recognition of Prior Learning
RECOGNITION OF COMPETENCE (RABQSA)
1. Recognition of competence (ROC):
The recognition of competence in a particular unit/s of competency currently held, regardless of how, when or where learning occurred. Anyone who feels that they can demonstrate skills & knowledge which are the intended learning outcomes of a particular course can apply for recognition. This is often referred to as either "Recognition of Current Competency" (RCC) or "Recognition of Prior Learning".
2. Recognition of prior learning (RPL):
An individual learns in many different ways. Some of that learning proceeds by way of formal education and training, and some by way of work experience and/or life experiences. RPL takes into consideration not only completed formal study, but also relevant learning gained through work & life experience so that you are enabled to gain credit in a course of study. RPL is a process that enables you to gain exemptions from subjects by matching your knowledge and skills against the learning outcomes of those subjects.
3. Recognition of current competency (RCC):
One way in which competence can be demonstrated in a particular unit of competency is through formal assessment. Anyone who feels that they can demonstrate skills & knowledge which are the intended learning outcomes of a particular subject can apply for Recognition of Current Competency (RCC).
Trainees can make arrangements with the ISC office to be formally assessed if they feel that they can demonstrate their competence in that manner. A fee applies to the process of RPL or RCC.
